A number of cohort studies
have suggested that former smokers have no increased risk for a breast
cancer recurrence and early death. However, this is not the
case. Risk of recurrence and early death is related to the
lifetime exposure to cigarettes. Quitting smoking is important for
women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer as it will reduce their
risk of both recurrence and early death
