Benefit
of single-injection Depot Progesterone before surgery in node positive
breast cancer patients
This is the first randomized evidence
suggesting benefit of short-term peri-operative hormone therapy
(progesterone) in DFS and OS in node positive breast cancer. The results
not only suggest an easily implementable cost-effective intervention in
routine clinical practice but also offers some biological insights about
when does metastases set in? and how modulation of events at the time of
surgery affects a chronic disease?. In absence of side effects and low
cost of intervention this would be the most effective intervention for the
developing world as well as cash strapped health care systems globally.
The results need to be reproduced in other parts of the world.
