Malignancies among women who
gave birth after in vitro fertilization
We
studied women who had undergone in vitro fertilization, the majority
treated with fertility drugs. There was no general increased risk of (mainly
premenopausal) cancer among these women when followed in the national
cancer register. There was an increased risk for ovarian cancer but that was
seen also before treatment and may be due to ovarian pathology which
increased the risk both for infertility and for cancer. Our study indicates
that in vitro fertilization does not increase cancer risk in the woman
