Increased
risk of developing breast cancer from high saturated fat intake
In
our study we found that there was an increased risk of developing
breast cancer from high saturated fat intake, suggesting saturated
fat involvement in the etiology of breast cancer. From this type of
study it is not possible to establish a threshold value for
saturated fat intake, but saturated fat intake should be as low as
possible within the context of a nutritionally balanced diet. In
general it is recommended that the percentage of total calories from
saturated fat should not exceed 10% for women and that plant fat is
recommended over animal fat.
